Bio

I was born and raised in the suburbs around Tokyo, Japan. Soon after I got into high school, I became a huge fan of foreign rock music, which significantly contributed to my fluency in English over time.

After obtaining an M.S. in Applied Chemistry from Saitama University in Japan, I moved to the U.S. to pursue further study in Chemistry at the University of California, Riverside. My future goal at this point was to contribute to the environmental conservation and energy issues. During my five and a half years at Riverside, I conducted research and gave University-level lectures, while immersing myself in the cultural diversity in California. I was strongly motivated to acquire real communication skills in an international environment, and therefore I made a serious effort to actively participate in various social events.

Returning to Japan in 2012, I joined a Japanese engineering company as a specialist in automotive emission control, heading up their development projects for foreign auto manufacturers. During this period, I was simultaneously building up my translating and interpreting acumen in international business settings.

In early 2014, I joined a Japan-based NGO’s global voyage as an onboard Japanese/English interpreter. I thought California was different - but nothing prepared me for the experience of traveling to so many different countries, witnessing first-hand the cultural diversity the world has to offer.

Inspired by my wealth of experiences these past few years, I established Cross Culture Lab in 2014. Since then, I have been gaining hands-on experience in working independently and coordinating small teams. I am very much excited for the journey awaiting me and CCL in this age of rapid globalization like never before.

Hi! My name is Shinji Kaneko. I founded Cross Culture Lab (CCL) to provide intercultural communication support. CCL is run by myself, with the help of my friends located all around the world.

Besides my Japanese/English fluency, I have much to offer from my extensive overseas experience and my educational and professional backgrounds in the fields of science, technology, and music. Through various trainings and work experiences as translator and interpreter, I have expanded my expertise in the fields of business, education, politics, sports, entertainment, and many more.

CCL is providing communication support mainly in the form of Japanese/English translation, interpretation, language education, and consultation, although the possibility is endless with the international network I have built over the years. Please let us know how we can be of your help!
